The first thing to state is that this 800 word story will not be published - instead it will be sold at a charity auction in London on June 10th.
All the money raise at the auction will go to an English charity call English Pen, who try to promote understanding of Dyslexia through literature.
Jk Rowling’s Harry Potter Prequel is just one of thirteen stories being sold at the auction. Waterstone Books asked thirteen authors, including; Nick Hornby, Margaret Atwood, Lauren Child, Tom Stoppard, Sebastian Faulks, Irvine Welsh and Doris Lessing, to write a short story (story card) that they would allow to be sold at Waterstone’s ‘What’s Your Story’ auction.
Every aspect the Harry Potter phenomenon draws huge interest from the public and media alike. So the Sotheby’s expert Philip Errington, who is running the Waterstone’s auction, is expecting a significant amount of money to be raised “Given the enormous interest we have seen in recent times for autographed work by JK Rowling….. there is just no telling how high the bidding might go.”
If recent history is to go by this could well be the case. JK Rowling’s The Tales of Beedle the Bard, sold for an incredible £1.95m at auction last year. So, the signs for English Pen look good, a point not lost on Waterstones managing director, Gerry Johnson, “We never dreamed that JK Rowling would donate something so precious, and we’re incredibly grateful.”
JK Rowling finishes the Harry Potter Prequel with the handwritten words: “From the prequel I am not working on - but that was fun!”
If you are a huge fan of Rowling’s creation and you have very deep pockets, why not go along to Waterstone’s Piccadilly store on June 10th. You might become the proud owner of the one and only Harry Potter prequel.
